ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া মূক ও বধির নিম্ন মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়
ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া শহরের প্রাণকেন্দ্রে ১৯৪২ খ্রীঃ ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া মূক ও বধির বিদ্যালয়টি প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। তৎকালীন সময়ে সমাজে অবহেলিত ও নাজুক মূক ও বধির শিশুদের মঙ্গলার্থে শ্রী হীরেন্দ্র চন্দ্র ভট্ট্যচর্য্য নামে একজন দয়ালু ব্যক্তি একটি বিদ্যালয় স্থাপনের স্বপ্ন দেখেছিলেন। তিনি মাত্র ০৩ জন মূক ও বধির শিশু নিয়ে বিদ্যালয়ে শিক্ষাদান শুরু করেন।
ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলার ইহাই মূক ও বধির শিশুদের জন্য একমাত্র বিদ্যালয়। প্রতিবন্ধী শিশুদের এইরুপ একটি বিদ্যালয়ের প্রয়োজনীয়তা অনুধাবন করে তৎকালীন সরকার ৭৪ শতাংশ নিজ জমির উপর প্রতিষ্ঠিত এই বিদ্যালয়ের উন্নয়নের জন্য ২০,০০০/- টাকা অনুদান প্রদান করেন। প্রতিষ্ঠাতা প্রধান শিক্ষক ১৯৬৯ খ্রীঃ পর্যন্ত এই বিদ্যালয় পরিচালনা করেন।
ক্রমান্বয়ে শিক্ষার্থীর সংখ্যা বাড়তে থাকে। জনাব আখাতারুজ্জামান নামে একজন আর্ট শিক্ষকের কর্মকালে এই বিদ্যালয়ে শিক্ষার্থীর সংখ্যা ৩৭ জনে এসে দাড়ায়। তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে কমার্শিয়াল-পেইনটিং আর্ট ও ইশার ভাষা সহ অন্যান্ন প্রয়োজনীয় কৌশল/দক্ষতা শিক্ষা দানে তিনি ছিলেন নিবেদিত প্রাণ। যেন শিক্ষার্থীরা সমাজে সম্মান ও মর্যাদা নিয়ে বাঁচতে পারে। তার আন্তরিক শিক্ষাদান ও প্রশিক্ষনের ফলে এই বিদ্যালে য়র শিক্ষার্থীরা দেশ বিদেশের অনেক পুরষ্কার অর্জন করে। আন্তর্জাতিক সংস্থার আয়োজিত চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় তাদের অঙ্কনকর্ম প্রেরনের মাধ্যমে অংশগ্রহন করে থাকে।
দেশ বিদেশে আয়োজিত চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় নিম্নে উল্লেখিত আর্জন সমূহ অর্জিত হয়ঃ
১। ১৯৬৪ সালে মোহাম্মদ হাবিবুল্লা বাহার নামে একজন সৃজনশীল বধির শিক্ষার্থী ঞযব ঈড়সসড়হ-বিধষঃয ঝড়পরবঃু ভড়ৎ ঃযব উবধভ – এর পুরষ্কার সহ প্রশংসা পত্র লাভ করে।
২। ১৯৬৬ সালে নাজমুল হক এবং মোঃ রহমতউল্লাহ খান নামে দুইজন মেধাবী ও সৃজনশীল বধির শিক্ষার্থী অতীতের সমস্ত রেকর্ড ভঙ্গ করে আন্তর্জাতিক ভাবে অনুষ্ঠিত ঞযব ঈড়সসড়হ-বিধষঃয ঝড়পরবঃু ভড়ৎ ঃযব উবধভ লন্ডনে চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করে সর্বোচ্চ মেধাস্থান ও সম্মাননা লাভ করে।
৩। এভাবে অর্জনের ধারা সমূন্নত রেখে যথাক্রমে ১৯৬৮, ১৯৭০ ও ৭৩ সালে মেধাবী ও সৃজনশীল বধির শিক্ষর্থীরা ১ম ও ২য় স্থান অর্জন করে।
৪। ১৯৭৯ সালে মোঃ আতিকুর রহমান নামে ৭ম গ্রেডের একজন শিক্ষার্থী জাতীয় পর্যায়ে অনুষ্ঠিত চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় প্রেসিডেন্ট পদক লাভ করে। একই বৎসরে দিলারা বেগম নামে এক বধির শিক্ষার্থী জাপানে অনুষ্ঠিত আন্তর্জাতিক চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় গোল্ড ম্যাডেল সহ আন্তর্জাতিক পদক লাভ করে।
৫। ভারতে অনুষ্ঠিত ১৯৯৪ সালে শঙ্কস্ অন্তর্জাতিক শিশু প্রতিযোগীতায় রুনা নামের এক শিক্ষার্থী ১ম স্থান গ্রহণ করেন।
৬। ২০০০ সালে তারেক কোরেশী নামে একজন অষ্টম শ্রেণীর শিক্ষার্থী জাতীয় পর্যায়ে অনুষ্ঠিত প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহন করে স্বর্নপদকে ভূষিত হয়।
৭। ২০১৫ সালে মো ঃ আকরাম হোসেন নামে ৮ম শ্রেণীর একজন শিক্ষার্থীর একটি চিত্রাঙ্কন বাংলাদেশ সরকারের মাননীয় প্রধান মন্ত্রীর শুভেচ্ছা কার্ডে স্থান লাভ করায় ৫০,০০০/- টাকা পুরষ্কার পান। একই সাথে ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া সদর আসন-০৩ এর মাননীয় সংসদ সদস্য বীরমুক্তিযোদ্ধা জনাব র.আ.ম. উবায়দুল মুক্তাদির চৌধুরী খুশি হয়ে উক্ত শিক্ষার্থীকে আরও ১০,০০০/- পুরষ্কার প্রদান করেন।
৮। ২০২৩ সালে মোঃ ছামিম নামে একজন অষ্টম শ্রেণীর শিক্ষার্থীর অঙ্কিত চিত্রাঙ্কন বাংলাদেশ সরকারের মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী, শেখ হাসিনার শুভেচ্ছা কার্ডে স্থান লাভ করায় তাকে ১,০০,০০০/- (একলক্ষ) টাকা প্রদান করেন।
৯। ২০২৩ সালে ফারদিন হোসেন আপন নামে অষ্টম শ্রেণীর একজন শিক্ষার্থীর অঙ্কিত চিত্র সম্মানিত জেলা প্রশাসক মহোদয়ের শুভেচ্ছা কার্ডে স্থান পায়।
১০। ২০২৪ সালে ওয়াকিল নামে অষ্টম শ্রেণীর একজন শিক্ষার্থীর অঙ্কিত চিত্র বাংলাদেশ সরকারের মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার শুভ নববর্ষের শুভেচ্ছা কার্ডে স্থান পাওয়ায় তাকে ১,০০,০০০/- (এক লক্ষ) টাকা পুরষ্কার প্রদান করেন।
১১। তাছাড়া, সরকারি ও বেসরকারি সংস্থা কর্তৃক স্থানীয় ও জাতীয় পর্যায়ে অনুষ্ঠিত চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতায় অত্র বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীরা বরাবরের মতোই ১ম, ২য় ও ৩য় স্থান অর্জন করে বিদ্যালয়ের সুনাম বহন করে আসছে।
বর্তমানে বিদ্যালয়ের সামনে হীরেন্দ্র চন্দ্র মার্কেট (এইচ.সি. মার্কেট) নামে একটি মার্কেট প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয়েছে। ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলার সাবেক সম্মানীয় অতিরিক্ত জেলা ম্যাজিষ্ট্রেট জনাব বনমালী ভৌমিক ইহার প্রধান উদ্দ্যোক্তা। মূক ও বধির বিদ্যালয়ের উন্নয়নে তাঁর আন্তরিক প্রচেষ্টা বাস্তাবিকই প্রসংশনীয় ও চিরস্বরনীয়। তাঁর নিরলস পরিশ্রম, সততা ও আন্তরিকতার বলে তিনি বর্তমানে ঢাকার আগাঁরগায়ে অবস্থিত এশিয় মহাদেশ তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি বিষয়ক কার্যালয়ের মহা-পরিচালক পদে অলংকৃত আছেন।

ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া পৌরসভার সাবেক মেয়র, সাহসী বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা, জেলা আওয়ামীলীগের সাধারন সম্পাদক, রাজনৈতিক ব্যক্তিত্ব, শহর সমাজসেবার চেয়ারম্যান, প্রতিবন্ধীদের অভিভাবক ও নিবেদিত সেবক জনাব আল-মামুন সরকার ২০০৯ থেকে ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া মূক ও বধির নিম্ন মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ের পরিচালনা পর্ষদের সভাপতি হিসাবে দায়ীত্ব পালন করেছেন।
বিশেষভাবে স্বরনীয় ও পালনীয় জাতীয় দিবসগুলো যেমন ২৬শে মার্চ মহান স্বাধীনতা দিবস, ১৬ই ডিসেম্বর মহান বিজয় দিবসে সকল প্রকার প্রতিবন্ধী যেমন দৃষ্টি, অটিসটিক, বুদ্ধি ও শারীরিক প্রতিবন্ধী ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া শিশু পরিবারের অনাথ শিশু ও মূক ও বধির বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীসহ সমস্ত প্রতিবন্ধী শিক্ষার্থীদের অত্র বিদ্যালয়ের আঙ্গিনায় চোখধাধানো ব্যবস্থাপনায় মহা সমাবেশের আয়োজন করেন। এই বিদ্যালয় সমূহের শিক্ষক মন্ডলি ও কর্মচারীবৃন্ধ প্রতিবন্ধী শিক্ষার্থী ও তাদের অভিভাবকদের শৃংঙ্খলা ও ব্যবস্থাপনায় সর্বদা নিয়োজত থাকেন। সমাজসেবা অধিদপ্তর সহ জেলা প্রশাসন এর সহায়তায় জনাব আল-মামুন সরকারের এই মহান উদ্দেশ্য সাধনে সহায়তা দিয়ে থাকেন। উক্ত দিবসগুলোর উপলক্ষে খেলাধুল প্রতিযোগিতায় বিজয়ী প্রতিবন্ধী শিক্ষার্থীদের পুরষ্কার ও সাধারণ প্রতিবন্ধী শিক্ষার্থীদের শান্তনা পুরষ্কার প্রদান অনুষ্ঠানে তিনি সরকারের উচ্চপদস্থ কর্মকর্তা, রাজনৈতিক ব্যক্তিত্ব ও অন্যান্ন গন্যমান্য ব্যক্তিদেরকে নিমন্ত্রন করে থাকেন। অনুষ্ঠান শেষে সকল প্রতিবন্ধী শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য প্যাকেট লাঞ্চের ব্যবস্থা করেন।
জনাব আল-মামুন সরকার অসহায় সুবিধাবঞ্চিত প্রতিবন্ধীদের নিবেদিত ব্যক্তিত্ব ও অভিভাবক। সামাজিক উন্নয়নে এই কল্যানমূখী অসাধারন কার্যক্রম এর জন্য তিনি রাষ্ট্রীয় পদকে ভূষিত হন। রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গনে বিশেষ অবদান ও সফল নেতৃত্বের নিরিখে মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর আমেরিকা সফরের সফর সঙ্গী হওয়ার আমন্ত্রন গ্রহন করেন।
বিদ্যালয়ের অধীনে যথেষ্ঠ পরিমান ভূমি সংরক্ষিত আছে। উপযুক্ত সহায়তা ও অবকাঠামোগত সহযোগিতা পেলে মূক ও বধির শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য এই বিদ্যালয়কে একটি কারিগরি মহাবিদ্যালয়ে উন্নীত করা খুব সহজ হবে। অনেক শিক্ষার্থী দরিদ্র পরিবার থেকে পড়াশুনা করতে আসে। জে.এস.সি পাশ করার পর ঢাকায় অবস্থিত মূক ও বধির উচ্চ বিদ্যালয় থেকে এস.এস.সি পাশ করার জন্য তাদের আর্থিক উপার্জনের জন্য কমার্শিয়াল আর্টিষ্ট হিসাবে কাজ করতে হয়। ইহা উল্লেকযোগ্য যে পি.এস.সি ও জে.এস.সি বোর্ড পরীক্ষা পদ্ধতি চালু হওয়া থেকেই অত্র বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীরা শতভাগ পাশ করে আসছে।
নিবেদিত প্রধান শিক্ষকগন ও শিক্ষকমন্ডলিঃ
প্রতিষ্ঠাতা প্রধান শিক্ষক জনাব শ্রী হীরেন্দ্র চন্দ্র ভট্টাচার্য ২৮/০৫/১৯৪২ থেকে ২০/০৯/১৯৬৯ সাল পর্যন্ত নিষ্ঠার সাথে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।
প্রতিষ্ঠাতা প্রধান শিক্ষক বিদায় গ্রহনের পর জনাব গিয়াসউদ্দিন এই বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক হিসেবে দায়িত্বভার গ্রহন করেন। তাঁহার কার্যকাল ছিল ২১/০৯/১৯৬৯ থেকে ৩১/১২/২০০৭ পর্যন্ত।
জনাব মোঃ সাহিদুল ইসলাম অত্র বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। তাঁহার কার্যকাল ছিল ০১/০৯/২০০৮ থেকে ৩০/০৪/২০১০ পর্যন্ত। বর্তমানে তিনি ঐতিহ্যবাহী নিয়াজ মোহম্মদ উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক হিসেবে সুনামের সহিত দায়িত্ব পালন করে আসছেন।
বর্তমানে অত্র বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষক হিসাবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন জনাব মোঃ তাজুল ইসলাম ভূইয়া। তিনি ০১/০১/২০০৮ থেকে ৩১/০৮/২০০৮ এবং ০১/০৫/২০১০ থেকে ৩০/০৬/২০১০ পর্যন্ত ভারপ্রাপ্ত হিসাবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। স্থায়ী ভাবে প্রধান শিক্ষক হিসাবে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করেন ০১/০৭/২০১০ থেকে বর্তমান।
বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষকমন্ডলী শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রতি অত্যন্ত সহানুভূতিশীল ও স্নেহশীল। মূক ও বধির হওয়া সত্বেও শিক্ষার্থীরা খুব সচেতন। পাবলিক পরীক্ষায় তারা স্বাভাবিক শিক্ষার্থীদের সাথে অংশগ্রহন করে সফলতার সহিত বরাবরই প্রতিবছর উত্তীর্ণ হয়ে আসছে। বর্তমানে অত্র বিদ্যালয়ে ০৯ জন এমপিওভূক্ত শিক্ষক-কর্মচারী ও ২ জন খন্ডকালীন শিক্ষক-কর্মচারী রয়েছে।
বিদ্যালয়ের বর্তমান কার্যক্রমসমূহ
অত্র বিদ্যালয়ের বাক্ ও শ্রবণ প্রতিবন্ধী ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের জন্য নি¤েœাক্ত কার্যক্রম চালু আছে।
১। নার্সারী থেকে ৮ম শ্রেণী পর্যন্ত সাধারন শিক্ষা প্রদান করা হয়।
২। বিশেষ পদ্ধতিতে কথা বলা শিক্ষা।
৩। আর্ট, কম্পিউটার, সেলাই ইত্যাদি কারিগরি শিক্ষা।
৪। খেলাধুলা ও চিত্ত বিনোদন।
ভবিষ্যত কার্যক্রম
১। বিদ্যালয়ের ৫ম ও ৮ম শ্রেণীর ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের পি.এস.সি ও জে.এস.সি পরীক্ষায় আরো ভাল ফলাফল নিশ্চিত করা।
২। সকল শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের ইশারা ভাষার ব্যবস্থা করা।
৩। স্পীস থেরাপির ব্যবস্থা করা।
৪। কারিগরি শিক্ষার প্রসার ও মান উন্নয়নের ব্যবস্থা করা।
Brahmanbaria Deaf and Dumb Junior High School
Located in the heart of Brahmanbaria town, the Brahmanbaria Deaf and Dumb Junior High School was established in 1942. A kind-hearted man named Mr. Hirendra Chandra Bhattacharya envisioned a school for underprivileged and vulnerable deaf and mute children. He began the journey with only three students.
This is the only school in Brahmanbaria district dedicated to deaf and mute children. Recognizing the need for such an institution, the government of that time provided a grant of BDT 20,000 for the development of the school, which was built on 74 decimals of Mr. Bhattacharya’s own land. He served as the founding head teacher until 1969.
Over time, the number of students increased. During the tenure of art teacher Mr. Akhtaruzzaman, the student count reached 37. He was dedicated to teaching students sign language, commercial painting, and other necessary skills, ensuring they could live with dignity in society. Under his guidance, students won numerous awards both nationally and internationally. Their artwork was submitted to international art competitions.
Notable Achievements in Art Competitions
1. In 1964, a talented student named Mohammad Habibullah received a certificate of appreciation and an award from The Commonwealth Society for the Deaf.
2. In 1966, students Nazmul Haque and Md. Rahmatullah Khan broke previous records by achieving top positions at an international art competition held in London by The Commonwealth Society for the Deaf.
3. In 1968, 1970, and 1973, the school continued this legacy, with students winning 1st and 2nd places in international contests.
4. In 1979, Md. Atikur Rahman, a 7th-grade student, won the President's Medal at a national art competition. That same year, Dilara Begum won a gold medal in an international competition held in Japan.
5. In 1994, a student named Runa secured 1st place at the Shankar International Children's Competition in India.
6. In 2000, Tarek Qureshi received a gold medal in a national competition.
7. In 2015, an 8th-grade student named Md. Akram Hossain had his artwork featured on the Prime Minister’s greeting card. He was awarded BDT 50,000 by the Government and an additional BDT 10,000 from the local MP.
8. In 2023, Md. Shamim, another 8th-grade student, also had his artwork featured on the Prime Minister’s greeting card and received BDT 50,000.
9. That same year, Fardin Hossain Apon, an 8th-grade student, had his drawing selected for the District Commissioner’s greeting card.
10. In 2024, Wakil Hasan, an 8th-grade student, had his artwork featured on the Prime Minister’s Bengali New Year card and received BDT 100,000.
11. In addition, the school’s students regularly win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes at various local and national art competitions organized by both governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Development Initiatives
In front of the school, a market named “Hirendra Chandra Market (H.C. Market)” has been established. Mr. Bonamali Bhowmik, former Additional District Magistrate of Brahmanbaria, played a key role in its development. His tireless efforts for the welfare of the school are deeply appreciated and remembered. He currently serves as the Director General of the Asia-Pacific Information and Communication Technology Office in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Administrative Leadership (Since 2009)
From 2009, the school's management committee was led by Mr. Al-Mamun Sarkar—former Mayor of Brahmanbaria Municipality, a brave freedom fighter, former General Secretary of the District Awami League, and a dedicated advocate for the disabled. After his passing, Mr. Shahidul Islam, Principal of the renowned Niaz Mohammad High School, took over the leadership, helping the school grow rapidly. The current president is Dr. Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, a respected physician and social worker.
On national days such as **March 26 (Independence Day)** and **December 16 (Victory Day)**, the school organizes grand assemblies for all types of disabled students—including visually impaired, autistic, intellectually disabled, physically challenged children, as well as orphans from Brahmanbaria Shishu Paribar. These events feature colorful ceremonies.
Teachers and staff work closely with the students and their guardians to maintain discipline and smooth management. The Department of Social Services and the District Administration have supported the vision of Mr. Al-Mamun Sarkar. Winners of sports competitions on these occasions receive prizes, while other participants are given consolation gifts. Senior government officials, political leaders, and other notable figures are invited to the events. All students receive packed lunches at the end.
Future Development
The school owns sufficient land. With adequate support and improved infrastructure, it can be upgraded to a technical college for the deaf and mute. Many students come from poor families. After completing their JSC exams, they pursue SSC studies at the Government Deaf and Mute High School in Vijay Nagar, Dhaka, while working as commercial artists to earn money. Since the introduction of PSC and JSC board exams, students of this school have consistently achieved a 100% pass rate.
Head Teachers Over the Years
Mr. Hirendra Chandra Bhattacharya (28/05/1942 – 20/09/1969): Founding Head Teacher, served with dedication.
Mr. Giasuddin (21/09/1969 – 31/12/2007): Took over after the founder’s retirement.
Mr. Md. Shahidul Islam (01/09/2008 – 30/04/2010): Later became principal of Niaz Mohammad High School.
Mr. Md. Tajul Islam Bhuiyan: Served as Acting Head Teacher (01/01/2008 – 31/08/2008 and 01/05/2010 – 30/06/2010), then became permanent Head Teacher from 01/07/2010 to present.
The teaching staff are compassionate and caring toward the students. Despite their challenges, students are well-disciplined and perform successfully in public exams alongside regular students. Currently, the school has 9 MPO-listed (government-funded) teachers and staff, along with 2 part-time members.
